Found/Made/Used/Owned fields

Post by Beth_Hayward » Thu May 03, 2018 12:06 pm

Hi all,

I was wondering how different institutions use the Found, Made, Used, and Owned fields in the Object catalogue. I've never been quite sure how they were meant to be used, and I've yet to see them used consistently. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Hello Beth,
Thanks for using this service. There are only a few folks on here so far.... hope they have switched on notifications!
My answer - as in all areas of PP its a matter of choosing your preferences and making a routine. My suggestions:
Made - would locally within your catchment area include village/town, township, county, Ontario..... or foreign less defined - Paris, France or London England.
Found - would be similar - then use sites and localities for special item.
Used & owned - usually the provenance would cover these areas, but a simple name would work if you feel helpful, family group of artifacts etc., or used by one specific person in your community.
